What is made in Kishangarh
Kishangarh's role is processing: blocks arrive from quarries elsewhere in Rajasthan and are sawn into slabs on gangsaws, then ground, polished, resin-filled and cut to size. The Indian Bureau of Mines names the Makrana–Kishangarh region among Rajasthan's main marble regions and lists Kishangarh with Makrana, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Rajsamand and others as important processing centres. Ajmer district's ODOP listing covers granite as well as marble, and both are sawn and polished on similar lines.
| Product | Typical finishes | Key inspection points |
|---|---|---|
| Marble slabs | Polished, honed; resin-filled, mesh-backed | Cracks against natural veins, fills, thickness, slab numbering |
| Marble and granite tiles | Calibrated, polished, honed, flamed (granite) | Size, thickness, squareness, edge chips, shade sorting |
| Cut-to-size stone | Table tops, vanity tops, steps and sills | Dimensions to drawing, edge profile, cut-outs, polish |
Kishangarh is often described in trade press as a major marble market. We have not found an official source for its size, so this page does not give one.
What we check for Kishangarh stone
| Product | Key checks |
|---|---|
| Marble slabs and tiles | Every numbered slab laid out for vein direction and bookmatch; resin fills and back mesh; cracks versus natural fissures; polish and scratches; thickness at several points |
| Granite slabs and tiles | Colour and grain against the approved sample, thickness and calibration, flatness, flamed or polished finish, edge chips |
| Stone tops for furniture | Size to drawing, edge profile, sealing, fill size, fixing points |
| Marble-top coffee tables | Top-to-base fit, stability, shade match within a set, crating |
| Marble décor | Chips, polish, felt pads, finish against sample |
| Marble bathroom accessories | Sealing, drainage, fit of pumps and inserts, chips |
See stone, marble and granite inspection for the full approach. Flexural strength, water absorption and slip resistance are lab tests; we can pull and seal samples through lab testing coordination.
Common defects in processed stone
| Defect | Typical class | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Crack running through a slab or top, hidden under a fill or mesh | Critical | The piece can break in handling or under load |
| Crate that is weak, unbraced or not ISPM 15 marked | Major | Breakage in transit; crates can be held at import |
| Thickness under the order or varying across one slab | Major | Problems in fitting, and a sign of poor sawing |
| Slabs from different blocks mixed in one bundle | Major | Colour and veining will not match on site |
| Fills larger or more visible than the approved sample | Major | Appearance and possible hidden weakness |
| Dull patches, swirl marks or scratches in the polish | Minor | Visible on installed stone |
| Rust or water stains from wet packing on white marble | Major | Often permanent |
Timing and logistics
Kishangarh is outside our inspector base cities. An inspector travels from Jaipur, about 100 km away by road, and travel is charged at actual cost. Give us up to 5 working days' notice. Two or three processing units in Kishangarh can sometimes be covered on one trip when lots are small.
- Before crating: book the inspection when slabs are polished and laid out but not yet crated. Once crated, each slab is hard to see and reopening crates risks damage.
- Monsoon: from about July to September, wet slabs hide cracks and fills dry slowly. We inspect stone dry, and check that crates and straps are dry before closing.
- Container weight: stone reaches the weight limit long before the container is full. Container loading supervision checks the crate count, lashing and blocking so crates cannot shift in transit.
