2025 US tariffs. The Tribune reported in September 2025 that the US takes about 60% of Panipat's exports and that exports fell by over 40% after the US raised tariffs on Indian goods on 27 August 2025. US rates have changed since, so check the current duty for your product with your customs broker before you order.

What we check for home textiles

  • Dimensions: length, width and squareness of every sampled piece, against the tolerance in your specification.
  • Weight: product weight or GSM on a calibrated scale, since a lighter product is a common way to cut cost.
  • Colour and shade: compared with the approved sample under consistent light, and between pieces from different dye lots.
  • Workmanship: seams, binding, hems, fringes, loose threads, pile height, tufts that pull out, stains and print faults.
  • Backing and function: latex or anti-slip backing that is even and fully bonded, zips that run, and no strong chemical smell.
  • Labels: fibre content, care instructions, country of origin and retailer barcodes, checked against your artwork.
  • Packing: fold and pack method, polybag warnings, carton markings, carton weight and dry storage.

Rug flammability (16 CFR 1630 and 1631 in the US), colour fastness, pilling and shrinkage are laboratory tests. We can pull samples at the inspection and arrange them through lab testing coordination.

Common defects in Panipat home textiles

  • Size out of tolerance, especially on rugs and bath mats after washing or finishing.
  • Shade variation between pieces in one order when yarn comes from different dye lots.
  • Backing problems: latex seeping through to the face, patchy anti-slip coating or a strong smell in the carton.
  • Uneven pile and loose tufts on tufted products.
  • Crooked binding, open seams and broken stitches on edges and cushion covers.
  • Underweight products compared with the specification.
  • Wrong labels, such as a fibre content that does not match the order or a missing care label.
  • Damp cartons and mildew when goods are packed or stored in humid weather.

Timing and logistics

Panipat is about 90 km north of Delhi on the main highway to Chandigarh, so it is easy to reach by road. An inland container depot near Samalkha, south of the city, serves the area, and containers travel on to west-coast ports such as Mundra and Nhava Sheva. Many exporters stuff containers at the factory, where container loading supervision checks the count and carton condition.

  • Several sites: weaving, stitching and packing are often done at different units. A during-production inspection at the weaving or tufting stage catches size and shade problems early.
  • Monsoon: from about July to September, humidity slows drying of backed and washed products and can cause mildew in cartons. We check moisture and storage on the day.
  • Festivals: many units slow down or close for several days around Diwali, in October or November.

Frequently asked questions

Do you inspect at factories in Sector 29 and Sector 25?

Yes. We inspect at units in Sector 29, the HSIIDC industrial area in Sector 25 and at weaving, stitching and packing units elsewhere in and around Panipat.

How do you check rug and bath mat sizes?

We measure length, width and diagonals on every sampled piece and compare them with the tolerance in your specification. If you have not set one, agree it with the supplier before production.

Can you check that blankets and rugs meet the agreed weight?

Yes. We weigh sampled pieces on a scale and compare them with the specified weight or GSM, and record the readings in the report.

Do you test rugs for flammability?

Flammability is a lab test. For the US, small rugs fall under 16 CFR 1631 and larger carpets under 16 CFR 1630. We can pull samples at the inspection and coordinate the testing.

Did the 2025 US tariffs affect Panipat suppliers?

Yes. The Tribune reported in September 2025 that Panipat's exports fell by over 40% after the August 2025 US tariff rise. Check your supplier's capacity, and the current duty with your customs broker, before ordering.

Can you inspect an order split across several Panipat units?

Yes. Each unit needs its own visit and sample. If they are close together and the lots are small, we can sometimes cover two in a day; we confirm the man-days when you book.
