What is made in Ankleshwar and Vapi
Ankleshwar and Vapi are separate chemical towns in two districts of south Gujarat. We group them on one page because the work a buyer can ask of us is the same in both.
| Town | What the DC-MSME district profile says |
|---|---|
| Ankleshwar (Bharuch district) | The major industrial centre of the district. GIDC estates at Ankleshwar and Panoli; investment in chemicals and petrochemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, engineering and textiles. The estate table lists about 1,800 units in production at Ankleshwar (GIDC data, around 2011) |
| Vapi (Valsad district) | The core chemical-based industries hub of the district. Major exportable items include dyestuffs, chemicals and pharmaceuticals and pigment intermediates. The GIDC Vapi estate table lists about 1,175 units in production (data to 2010–11) |
Both profiles are old, and we give no export values because we have not found a current official figure for either town.
What we check, and what we do not
Chemical quality is decided by analysis, not by looking. We do not test purity, strength, shade of a dye or any other property on site, and we do not audit chemical processes or safety. What we offer is the part of the order that can be checked by an inspector:
| Check | What is recorded |
|---|---|
| Quantity | Count of drums, bags, IBCs or cartons; net weight on sampled units against the label and packing list |
| Packing | Drum and lid condition, closures and seals, leaks or residue, bag stitching and liners, pallet and stretch-wrap condition |
| Labels and marks | Product name, batch number, net weight, hazard labels and packaging marks against your artwork and the shipper's declaration |
| Sampling | Samples drawn from units we select, sealed, labelled and sent to an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab you choose or we suggest |
| Loading | Container condition, stowage, segregation as instructed, securing, seal number |
Hazard classification and the dangerous-goods declaration are the shipper's responsibility. Sea transport of packaged dangerous goods falls under the IMO's IMDG Code; we check that the packages carry the marks and labels the shipper has declared, not whether the classification is right.
Sampling for accredited labs
For dyes and pigments, the usual dispute is strength or shade against the standard; for intermediates, assay and impurities. All of that is lab work. Through lab testing coordination we draw samples from drums or bags we pick at random, seal them in front of the factory, record the seal numbers and batch, and send them to the lab. We have no partner labs and take no commission; we check the lab report against the batch you are buying. Coordination costs US$99 per order; lab fees are separate.
For dyes going into textiles, the restricted-substance rules are on our azo dyes and restricted substances and EU REACH pages.
Common packing and loading problems
| Problem | Class |
|---|---|
| Leaking drum or split bag; residue on the outside of packages | Critical |
| Hazard label missing or different from the declaration | Critical |
| Batch number on the package does not match the certificate of analysis | Major |
| Short net weight on sampled units | Major |
| Dented drums, damaged pallets or wood without an ISPM 15 mark | Major |
| Faded or smudged non-hazard text on labels | Minor |
Powders are often shipped in FIBC bulk bags; their own checks apply. Wooden pallets need ISPM 15 marks.
