QIMA vs Bureau Veritas at a glance

Bureau Veritas sells consumer goods inspection through its Consumer Products Services (CPS) division, and books it through a service called InSpec. QIMA is an inspection, audit and testing company that books through its myQIMA platform.

Scores on the published rubric
We use the same six-point rubric as our list of quality inspection companies in India: each criterion 0 to 3, maximum 18. Scores match that list. Accreditation is scored from each company's own site and from the NABCB register of accredited inspection bodies (checked 14 Oct 2026).
| Criterion | QIMA | Bureau Veritas | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Accreditation | 2 | 3 | QIMA states ISO/IEC 17020 for its Shenzhen entity; Bureau Veritas CPS India is accredited by NABCB for general consumer goods inspection in India |
| India presence | 2 | 2 | Both have Indian entities and labs; neither names the production cities its inspectors cover |
| Price transparency | 2 | 0 | QIMA publishes a "from" price; Bureau Veritas publishes none |
| Booking | 3 | 3 | Both self-serve online |
| Report speed | 3 | 3 | Both state same-day reports |
| Reach | 3 | 3 | Both work in more than 40 countries |
| Total | 15 | 14 |
QIMA leads on price transparency; Bureau Veritas leads on accreditation in India. On booking, reporting and reach the two are level. The rubric does not score inspector skill or report quality; test those with a sample report and a first order.
Updated 14 Oct 2026: we now count India's NABCB register for accreditation, alongside each company's own site. That raised Bureau Veritas from 13 to 14; QIMA kept 15. Intertek scores 13. Updated 15 Oct 2026: SGS rose from 13 to 14, level with Bureau Veritas, after we re-checked its NABCB scope, which covers furniture and other general consumer goods. See SGS vs Intertek vs Bureau Veritas.
Where QIMA is the stronger choice
- You want to know the price before you ask. QIMA's US$419 starting rate includes the inspector's transport, meals and accommodation, plus overtime, weekend and holiday work. That makes budgeting for factories outside the metros simpler.
- Your plans change late. QIMA lets you change or cancel an order until 1:00 pm CST the day before. Bureau Veritas also allows changes up to the day before, with a 4 pm factory-time cut-off.
- You want audits beyond quality. QIMA's India page lists ethical, environmental, structural, manufacturing and C-TPAT audits.
- You import textiles or toys. QIMA lists ISO 17025 labs in India for textiles and toys, including a lab in Tiruppur.
Where Bureau Veritas is the stronger choice
- Your contract requires an accredited inspection body in India. Bureau Veritas CPS India's NABCB scope (IB 157) covers pre-shipment and final inspection of furniture, décor, textiles, toys and electrical goods.
- You need testing in more than one Indian region. Bureau Veritas lists NABL-accredited lab locations in Bangalore, Noida and Tirupur. For buyers with suppliers around Noida and Bengaluru, a lab in the same region shortens sample transit.
- You sell into the US and need CPSC-accepted labs. The same three Indian sites appear in Bureau Veritas's CPSC list. Read our page on CPSIA for children's products.
- Your retailer names Bureau Veritas. If your vendor manual names it, use it, and ask for the InSpec account to be linked to the retailer programme.
- You book well ahead. Bureau Veritas offers an early-booking discount for inspections booked 15 days in advance, which suits buyers with stable production calendars.
- You want inspection, testing and certification in one group. Bureau Veritas works in 140 countries across many sectors, so product certification and testing can sit with the same group as inspection.
Choose QIMA if, choose Bureau Veritas if
Choose QIMA if you want a published price, book inspections yourself, and buy textiles, toys or general consumer goods from several Asian countries.
Choose Bureau Veritas if your contract requires accredited inspection of general consumer goods in India, your retailer names it, you need lab testing in north and south India as well as inspection, or you plan bookings 15 days ahead and can use the early-booking discount. SGS scores the same (14) and also holds Indian accreditation covering general consumer goods, and Intertek scores one point lower (13), so if your retailer names one of those instead, the scores give little reason to switch.
Either way, for factories in India:
- Ask which entity performs the inspection, and whether its accreditation scope covers your product and country.
- Ask where the inspector for your factory's city is based and whether travel is included. Craft clusters such as Moradabad, Jodhpur and Saharanpur are a long way from metro offices.
- Set the same AQL and defect classes for every supplier. The AQL calculator gives the ISO 2859-1 sample size for your lot.
- Ask for a sample report in your product category before the first booking.

How this comparison was made
We read QIMA's and Bureau Veritas's own pages on 14 Oct 2026: group facts, the InSpec FAQ, accreditations, India pages and pricing. We also read Bureau Veritas CPS India's entry on the NABCB register. No third-party reviews were used. Each fact is linked under Sources, and we re-check them regularly; the scored list was last revised on 14 Oct 2026.
Clear To Load, which publishes this page, is one India-only option: based in Jodhpur, not yet accredited (ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation is in progress), with no in-house lab. It scores 10 of 18 on the same rubric. See Clear To Load vs Bureau Veritas.
