What is One District One Product (ODOP)?

One District One Product (ODOP) names a signature product for each district and supports its makers. Uttar Pradesh launched its state ODOP scheme in January 2018; the Government of India runs a separate national ODOP initiative with a product list for districts across India. ODOP names districts, not towns: for example, Bulandshahr district (Khurja) for ceramic products.

What ODOP means for a buyer

ODOP tells you where a product is concentrated and where government support for common facilities, training and marketing is aimed. It is not a certificate for any factory and not a quality standard. It is also separate from a Town of Export Excellence, which is a Foreign Trade Policy status for one product group, and from a geographical indication, which protects a product name. A supplier in an ODOP district still needs the same pre-shipment inspection as any other.
